Islamic Institute's Chairman to Deliver Benediction at
Republican National Convention

On Monday, July 31st, the Republican National Convention will commence in Philadelphia, with some thirty thousand attendees and millions of viewers in the US and abroad. As a result of the diligent work of Muslim activists and the daily activities of their communities nationwide, as well as the support of the Republican National Committee, a Muslim, Mr.Talat Othman, will offer the benediction (dua'a) at the opening session of the Convention. This will be the first Muslim benediction ever offered at any political party's national convention.

Mr.Othman, chairman of the Islamic Institute, has a very strong record of leadership not only in his own professional field, but in the Muslim community as well. Mr. Othman is the Chairman and CEO of Grove Financial, Inc. Moreover, he is the founding president and current vice-chairman of the Council on Islamic Organizations of greater Chicago, the founding board member of the Islamic Cultural Center in North Brook, IL, and the current chairman of the Islamic Society of North America's International Business and Trade Fair.

A Muslim community leader offering dua'a (benediction) at one of the most important Republican Party events is a cause for celebration. The Republican National Committee's invitation conveys their tremendous respect for the rapidly growing Muslim Community in America, while paving the way for other political parties to extend similar recognitions.
